Revive Dull and Dry Hair in 6 Steps

Revive Dull and Dry Hair in 6 Steps

Dull, brittle, and frizzy are three of the major words used to describe dry hair. If any of these words describe how your hair feels, then it’s one of two things happening; your scalp isn’t making enough oil to moisturize your hair or your hair isn’t holding on to the moisture. If you’ve been struggling with dry hair and the situation is becoming puzzling, this article will shed light on the reasons why your hair is dry and a few things you can do to correct the situation and make your hair shiny and rich in moisture.

Causes of Dry Hair

Several factors can cause your hair to be dry. To make it easy for you to start troubleshooting and know what’s making your hair so dry, we’ll divide these factors into three, environmental conditions, hair care practices, and your physical health.

Environmental factors

The environment you live in can have a significant effect on your hair, living in a hot, dry climate can make your hair dry since there isn’t a lot of moisture in the air. Spending a lot of time in the sun or wind can also dry out your hair. Chlorinated or salty water is another strong environmental factor, swimming in these types of waters without protecting your hair can make it dry.

Hair care practices

The way you care for your hair plays a huge role in the amount of moisture your hair will retain. Washing your hair too often, using a harsh shampoo, heat styling using blow dryers and curling irons, and dying or chemically treating your hair can rob your hair of its moisture.

Healthy Lifestyle

Physical health

Your hair is an extension of your body, your physical self, so the health of your body can determine how your hair will look or feel. Underlying health conditions like anorexia nervosa or hypoparathyroidism can affect the health and level of moisture of your hair. If your dry hair is paired with other symptoms like fatigue, hair loss, or weakness, you should see your doctor to make sure you don’t have a health problem causing your dry hair.

Tips For Treating Dry Hair

Don’t wash your hair every day

Your hair will do great with washing once or twice a week. Shampoo rids your hair of dirt and sweat, but it can also strip it of natural oils that keep it moisturized. So wash your hair less often and use a mild shampoo when you do.

Condition your hair

If you’re not already conditioning your hair, add conditioning to your hair-washing routine. A natural conditioner will moisturize your hair and keep your cuticles lying flat, this way they can hold on to more natural oils.

Avoid hair products with alcohol

Alcohol is known to be dehydrating, so avoid hair care products with alcohol in them. Pay attention to the products you’re buying and what they have in them. Opt for more natural hair care products to ensure you expose your hair to fewer chemicals that can be drying and damaging over the long run.

Omega-3

Add vitamins, omega-3s, and antioxidants to your diet

What you eat directly affects the health of your hair, everything comes from within. You can take an inside-out approach and consciously add nutrients like vitamins A, C, and H (also known as biotin) to your diet. You can get these nutrients from foods like salmon, oysters, walnuts, and tomatoes. The key here is to pay attention to what you eat and make sure your food contains enough nutrients that will make your hair healthier. You might have to do some research for this, but it’ll be worth it. Eating healthy is a potent way to make your hair healthy.

Cut down on heat styling

Heat, from any source, is bad for your hair. All the heat attached to heat styling can damage your hair and rob it of its precious moisture.

Hair Oil

Essential oils

When your hair is dry you can lend a helping hand by adding oils to do some moisturizing. Natural oils like coconut oil, jojoba oil, or Moroccan argan oil can give your hair the moisture it needs and help prevent breakage.

Conclusion

There are lots of factors that can cause your hair to be dry, but with a decent level of awareness and attention to detail, you can gradually reduce the dry condition of your hair and transition to shiny and healthy hair. We hope the information and tips we’ve given in this article will start you on a journey of better understanding your hair so you can take great care of it.

I appreciate the recommendation to moisturize with essential oils such as argan oil or coconut oil. Knowing that there are natural remedies available to mitigate dryness and prevent breakage is highly encouraging.

I have natural curly hair and it is very dry and frizzy. I use shampoo and conditioner that are sulfate free and I wash my hair once a week. I have to blow dry and flatten it. Will theses bars help my hair? I am tired of trying to find the best stuff to help my hair.
